A 1:1 scale digital twin of Helsinki.
This project showcases a highly optimized open-world environment running in the Unity game engine. It represents a massive technical achievement in visualizing urban open data, designed for both performance and fidelity.
Beyond visual spectacle, this platform serves as a versatile foundation for:
Built on Helsinki's extensive open data, the project utilizes LiDAR data for precise terrain, water levels, bridges, and canopy models. Terrain materials are sourced from the Yleisten Alueiden Rekisteri (hri.fi, kartta.hel.fi), while street furniture data populates the scene with realistic detail.
A key innovation involved using LLMs to transform messy photogrammetry facade textures into clean, data-based procedural materials—ensuring precision, efficiency, and complete control over the aesthetic. While some areas may still appear rough due to the fully automated nature of the pipeline, achieving this level of fidelity without manual artist intervention represents a significant leap forward. While built for Helsinki, the pipeline is designed to be scalable to other cities.
The concept began in 2022 during my civil service work for the City of Helsinki. In early 2025, I revisited the idea, fueling an intense 18-hour development sprint where I worked without a single break, even eating in front of the computer—such is my obsession. This effort resulted in a proof-of-concept. This led to a collaboration with the city on a demo version. Since then, I've rewritten the core systems to maximize performance and visual fidelity.

A territory control game played on a real-world map. I tried to do like a Pokemon Go + Civilization 5 mashup. Well, I learnt a lot.
Survival and building on the red planet. My first big project. Worked on it for 14 months and canceled. I was about 14 years old.
A lot of my projects always featured procedural generation. Like this one I made when about 16.
I'm Pietari and I like to create interactive life simulation things.
My main project currently is getting this bird game out in some form, just as a way to showcase the cool city model. I think the model has an incredible amount of potential, and over the coming years I'll be exploring those potentials, and improving the model.
One of the reasons I really love this work, is that everything I see outside, be it a puddle or a bush, these projects give me reason to deeply analyze them, in order to recreate them. Once I've created it virtually, I feel I sort of own it. Though sometimes it can be a bit taxing.
I'm also looking forward to releasing my Sauna game, though who knows when that might happen...
